Top 3 Potential Opponents for Penta in WWE

Penta debuted for WWE last month and immediately entered into a program with Chad Gable. Who in WWE do you want to see Penta face the most? We’ve seen him wrestle for AEW, ROH, TNA, the indies and in Mexico but this is his first run in WWE and there’s a whole crop of wrestlers he’s yet to face. Today, I’ll go over some of the top guys I’d like to him face. I’m not going to include wrestlers he’s already faced in other places like CM Punk, LA Knight and Rey Mysterio.

First off, I want to see Penta face Dominik Mysterio. I understand that Dominik’s dad Rey is a legend and that people may want to see that but as I’ve mentioned, we’ve seen it before. Albeit, in front of a smaller audience in Lucha Underground but enough people have seen them tango before. That’s why I want to see Penta face Dominik. Dominik is arguably the top heel in all of wrestling and would get a lot of heat on a match between them. Penta could talk about how he had to actually learn the art of Lucha while Dominik was taught in a warehouse with his dad and WWE trainers. Dominik would get the most out of Penta in the promos and the lead up to the match and Penta would get the most out of Dom in ring.

Next up, I want to see Penta feud with a Champion. I’m fine with him not winning this Title but this could be a big program to get him going. He should face The United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Penta’s Lucha Libre high flying offence against Shinsuke’s more grounded strong style. Shinsuke is a dependable worker who has been involved in big programs in his career. He’s a great opponent for Penta and it just so happens he’s the current United States Champion. I’m not sure if Penta wins the Title or not in the program but it would be good for him to “make the leap” in WWE.

As I said, I’m going with all first-time matches here. What better opponent than the workhorse of WWE over the past decade plus, Seth Rollins. Rollins is one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster and one of the most technically gifted. A program with Seth Rollins would immediately elevate Penta’s standing to the audience. Their in ring styles would match well with each other as well. Like with Shinsuke Nakamura, Penta doesn’t even need to be put over in these matches. Regardless of the outcome, he’ll be viewed in a higher tier to fans.

In addition to these wrestlers, there’s so many others I’d like to see Penta face. Especially when Rey Fenix inevitably comes to WWE, it’ll open a ton of possibilities. Matches against DIY, the Motor City Machine Guns and The War Raiders. Let’s talk in the comments about who he should face. Do you agree with my choices?

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How t...

Ethan Page shocked the world when he won the NXT Championship last night at Heatwave. Well, I should say he stole the Title. You can check out more details here .  NXT's X account posted a video of "Ell Ego" getting the side plates for his newly won Title.  🚨 NEW SIDE PLATES 🚨  Welcome to the era of @OfficialEGO . 😁 👈 #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/uhY9dX13wj — WWE NXT (@WWENXT) July 8, 2024   I love having "All Ego" on there.  Ethan Page has worked his butt off for years and he deserves the recognition he's getting. I'm thrilled for him to be in the spot that he's in. Something tells me this won't be the last time he holds gold in WWE.

On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released.  In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents."  This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company. Maybe the third time in the future will be the charm.  I wonder what happens to Parker Boudreaux. He has the look of a future World Heavyw...
