Promos Returning to WWE Universe Mode in WWE 2K25

WWE and 2K announced WWE 2K25 and there’s some exciting features like the new “Island” and online MyGM multi-player. What’s gotten my excited however, is the return of promos in Universe Mode. Players haven’t been able to add promos in the mode since 2K20. Every year I go to play Universe Mode when the new game comes out, I look to add promos to my shows but it doesn’t let me. It’s been slightly annoying. Not annoying to the point where it actually frustrates me, it’s like biting my tongue every time I want to try add promos. I’m assuming they wanted to push people to MyGM, which was introduced in WWE2K22 and featured promos.

In the official release for 2K25, the developers announced finally announced the return of promos. MyGM is great and a lot of fun but there’s not a lot of flexibility to really do what you want. For instance, you can’t create custom shows. Universe Mode let’s you do that. Custom shows, PPVs and Championships. It really makes you feel like you’re running the show. While it doesn’t add much of a challenge, it’s a ton of fun for fantasy booking.

I’ve spent countless hours on Universe Mode. My game of choice? WWE 2K18. A game released over seven years ago! You don’t want to know how many hours I’ve spent booking shows on it. Especially during the pandemic. Why WWE 2K18? It’s the only WWE game (outside of Battlegrounds) on the Nintendo Switch. I have the newest Xbox but I’ve always preferred handheld gaming. Universe Mode runs great on the Switch, as there’s very little graphic processing happening. The only downside is that I have to create wrestlers if I want to use them in shows. Are they great? No. Do they meet my standards? I’d say they’re good enough. Whenever I go to play the newer games, I’m always disappointed that I can’t add promos like I can on the game released seven years ago. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about that anymore.

What feature in WWE2K25 has you the most excited? It seems like such a small thing to add, but is it the return of promos? Or is it the new Island mode, which is like NBA  2K’s Park mode. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How t...
