The Big Show is one of the biggest attractions over the past 25 years in wrestling. But could he have been bigger? The answer is yes according to Jim Ross on Grillin’ JR. JR feels that WWE overexposed Big Show.
"I thought all along that we had kind of mismanaged Big Show. I thought we overexposed him. He was an Andre The Giant like commodity that should have been seen less to mean more, but we just went whole hog on that deal. I thought we overexposed the attraction. You didn’t see Andre getting overexposed. That’s how Big Show should have been booked but he wasn’t.” - Jim Ross on Grillin' Jr
Sometimes less is more and I don’t think JR’s wrong here. They should have treated Big Show like a mountain that other wrestlers had to conquer, and only the ones ready for him would face him. Instead we got more than a dozen face/heel turns and a lot of comedy. While there were times that he was treated like the dominant attraction he should have been, a lot of the time he was soon as as goofy, friendly giant.
Show’s currently working for All Elite Wrestling under his real name, Paul Wight. His health isn’t what it was in the prime of his career and he hasn’t been used much as a wrestler. I think there’s a role for him on screen though as an on-screen figure who occasionally wrestles. He’s good for a loud pop from the audience and could be used to get a future star over.
