Are You On CM Punk’s Side or Jack Perry’s?

CM Punk is no stranger to speaking his mind, we’ve known that for years. According to a report from Fightful Select, CM Punk and Jack Perry were involved in a backstage exchange over the latter wanting to use real glass on the show. According to Fightful, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry wanted to use actual glass for a segment on Collision. According to Dave Meltzer, Perry wanted to use the real glass for a car crash angle. Punk reportedly said they don’t stuff like that on Collision and to do it on Dynamite instead.

You may famously remember Goldberg cutting his forearm open after smashing through a limousine window on WCW Thunder back in the day. It sounds like CM Punk didn’t want a repeat of that, at least on his show.

I understand Jack Perry wanting to do something cool and interesting but in my opinion, glass isn’t the way to do it. Now saying that, I don’t think Punk’s reported response of just straight up shooting it down and telling him to kick rocks was the best way to handle it.

I wonder if this report would have gotten out if Punk played it differently. Maybe countering that with a big fall that Perry could take onto a cushioned mat. Something safer than cutting himself at least. But CM Punk handled it how CM Punk handles most things. Head on.

Who’s side are you on? Did CM Punk have the right to veto this statement? Did Jack Perry overreact? According to Fightful, Perry was quite upset over Punk telling him not to do it. Fightful also reports that Tony Schiavone and the medical team advised Jack Perry against doing the spot. Perhaps CM Punk felt as the locker room leader he had reiterate that point.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

I'm thrilled for him to be in the spot that he's in. Something tells me this won't be the last time he holds gold in WWE.
