Would the AEW Collision rating for this week be higher if CM Punk had wrestled a singles match instead of another tag team match? According to Wrestlenomics, the most recent episode of Collision on June 24th averaged 595,000 thousand viewers. That’s a significant drop from the debut which did 832,000 viewers. CM Punk wrestled in another tag team match against Bullet Club Gold. The additions of The Gunn Club and Ricky Starks weren’t enough to maintain the strong start they did the previous week.
Would CM Punk vs Samoa Joe in singles action have been a better idea? Or what about CM Punk vs his Forbidden Door opponent, Satoshi Kojima? Would that have done the same? Who’s to say. I think they would have been better matter main events than what we got.
What if they advertised the fact that Sting would actually be there? We were told we would find out he and Darby’s partner. But the legend Sting made an appearance. That would have been nice to know. It’s always a pleasure seeing Sting on TV.
Or is it possible that the lustre has quickly worn off CM Punk? Is he only good to pop a 1-time rating and that’s it? I was hoping the rating this week would be higher because I’m a huge CM Punk backer. Saturday Nights are tough to draw people though. Even with one of wrestling’s proven draws. What do you think about the rating?
