Could AEW Dynamite get delayed tonight? The New York Yankees take on the Cleveland Guardians in an elimination game for both teams. The game airs on TBS, which is where Dynamite is also airing. Directly after it. The game takes place at 4:07 PM and Dynamite takes place at 8PM. Both are obviously taking place live. Could we see the Yankees game push back Dynamite if it goes long?
It’s certainly possible. The average MLB Playoff game lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes last season. If the game starts at 4:07 and goes 3:40, it would end at 7:47 PM. Playoff games last longer than regular season games because there’s an extra 50 seconds of advertising added on. Playoff games that go to extra innings last longer than regular season games because of the extra base runner rule not being in effect during the post-season. MLB introduced a rule to speed up the game, that in extra innings (past the 9th) both teams automatically get a runner on 2nd base. That isn’t in effect during the playoffs.
The Astros/Mariners game on Saturday lasted for 6 hours and 22 minutes. 18 innings. Literally double a regular length game. This is the worst case scenario for Dynamite viewers. I’d be shocked if we see that happen. It’s an anomaly and I don’t think lightning strikes twice.
As of 8:30 AM, I don’t think Dynamite gets delayed because of the game. I think everything, including interviews will wrap up right before 8pm. They’ll be cutting it close but I think it’ll work. If anything, you could see Dynamite get a massive rating bump for people sticking around after the game. I’ll have a blog post coming on that today too.
Who knows? Maybe we see a massive delay and Dynamite starts at 11pm. If I were Tony Khan, I’d be having some anxiety. It’s an off night and you could be delayed because of the biggest team in baseball. Craziness.
